Alfred Phillips, 80 of Summit died Saturday October 29, 2011 at his home in Summit.
His funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday November 1, 2011 at Hope Lutheran Church in Summit. Burial will be in the Summit City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday 5-7 P.M. at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster.
Alfred Lewis Phillips was born on May 21, 1931 to Earl and Gladys (Minor) Phillips at Waubay, South Dakota. He attended Waubay Public School until the seventh grade. In 1951 enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in France. He was released from active duty in 1953.
On March 4, 1955 he married Betty Purcell at Watertown, South Dakota. To this union two daughters were born, Donna and Robin. The couple made their home in Waubay until moving to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1960. While in St. Paul, Alfred was employed by Midwest Radiator. He worked there for 30 years until his retirement in 1996, when the couple moved back to South Dakota to be closer to family.
Alfred was an active member of the Summit VFW for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed his family and will be sadly missed by them.
Alfred passed away Saturday October 29, 2011 at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 8 days.
He is survived by one daughter Robin Phillips of Summit, SD, one brother Delbert Phillips of Estherville, IA, and one sister Mary (Bud) Bryant of Wichita, KS, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, one daughter Donna, one sister Nelda Kriech and three brothers: Leland, Orvil, and Alvin Phillips.
