Agnes Lewandowski, 95 of Roslyn and formerly of Grenville died on Sunday, November 06, 2011 at Strand-Kjorsvig Rest Home in Roslyn. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Grenville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the church 4-8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. Rosary. Agnes Josephine Block was born on Friday, December 17, 1915 to Frank and Sophia (Golombieski) Block, Sr. on the family farm near Grenville, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Grenville. She attended country school near her home. After she received her education she moved to Chicago where she worked in a candy factory. She returned to Grenville where she was united in marriage to Joseph Lewandowski on May 17, 1939 at Grenville. The couple made their home on a farm near Pickerel Lake. In 1951 the couple began operating a resort on Pickerel Lake. Joseph passed away in August 1957. She continued to operate the resort until 1971 when she moved to Grenville. She worked at Dakotah, Inc. in Webster until 1976. In 1988 she moved to Downtown Manor in Webster and in 2000 she entered Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Grenville where she was active in the Altar Society. She enjoyed fishing, word circle books, bingo, old time music and ballroom dancing in Chicago. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends on the telephone. Agnes passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 20 days. Survivors include five sons, Edwin (Dorothy) Lewandowski of Webster, SD, Donald (Genevieve) Lewandowski of Grenville, SD, Kenny (Claudia) Lewandowski of New Ulm, MN, Dennis (Letha) Lewandowski of Webster, SD and Eugene (Lola) Lewandowski of Forman, ND; three daughters, Arlene Lewandowski of Hartley, IA, Marilyn Miotke of Grenville, SD and Colette (Lyle) Carlson of Webster, SD; two brothers, Walter Block of Roslyn, SD and Melvin Block of Grenville, SD; thirty grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Tony, six sisters, four brothers and two great grandchildren.
